3 Players Who Could Win Their First MVP Next Season

MVP

The Most Valuable Player Award is the greatest individual award that a player could win. It signifies that a player was the best basketball player in the world for a whole year.

There are more than a few players in the NBA capable of winning the MVP. Next season, it should be a competitive race between those who already have MVP trophies and those who are chasing their first MVP.

In this article, we look at which three players have the best chance of winning their first MVP next season. These players are all top fifteen players in the league. It is very likely that one of these players will win the award.

Ja Morant

In just his third season in the NBA, Ja Morant led the Memphis Grizzlies to the second-best record in the NBA. The young star had a breakout season, averaging 27.4 points per game and 6.7 assists per game.

Morant is one of the most exciting players to watch in the NBA. He is a high-flying, explosive guard who is capable of dunking on anyone. Last season, he led the NBA in points in the paint as a 6’3” guard.

With Jaren Jackson Jr. already reported to be sidelined for several months, there will be more responsibility placed on Ja Morant. He has already shown he is capable of significant improvement in the NBA. As previously alluded to, Grizzlies were the second seed in the West last season. Even if their record is not as good as it was last year, the team will still be one of the best teams in the West.

Joel Embiid

The Philadelphia 76ers superstar has been in the MVP conversation for the past few years. It seems like only a matter of time before the voters finally decide to award Joel Embiid with the trophy.

Embiid has become an elite threat offensively. His skill set commands attention from opposing defenders. That should open up opportunities for Embiid to make his teammates better by finding them open. Expanding the passing game is the next step Embiid can take to finally win the award.

With the talent around him, the big man should be able to lead the 76ers to one of the top seeds in the East next season. Embiid will be the clear-cut best player on his team and he should carry a heavy scoring load. That should be the right recipe for Joel Embiid to win his first MVP.

Luka Doncic

At 23 years old, Luka Doncic is already too good to not win an MVP at some point in his career. Last season, Doncic finished fifth in MVP voting and made the All-NBA First Team. He will be better next season, and so will the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavs finished fourth in the West last season. Although they lost Jalen Brunson, they acquired Christian Wood who is a skilled young big man. They also have Spencer Dinwiddie, who should be able to step into the role that Brunson played last year. Losing Brunson is going to hurt, but with Luka’s improvement and the players surrounding him, the Mavericks should be fine.
Doncic is one of the best players at doing a lot with a little. He doesn’t need superstars on his roster to shine. He will carry his team to the playoffs by himself if he has to. That should capture the voters’ attention.
