Eastern Conference

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to impress in the 2022/23 season, as they continue to show that they could be contenders for the NBA Championship, rather than be pretenders.

The organization recently overcame another challenge in the form of the Oklahoma City Thunder as they managed to win 110-102, thus keeping them in the hunt for a place in the postseason at the end of the campaign.

Cleveland Cavaliers Sit Third in Eastern Conference

Indeed, the Ohio-based franchise currently sits third in the Eastern Conference at the time of writing, with J. B. Bickerstaff’s team continuing to enjoy a positive season, even though there has been a little bit of wobble in form to have been experienced at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

The win against Oklahoma will have been welcomed as the franchise had entered that game on the back of a defeat to the Sacramento Kings; having been able to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the game prior following a defeat to the New York Knicks before that.

Nonetheless, the win against City Thunder will hopefully help the Cavaliers get back to winning ways and help them to continue with their push to try and obtain first place in the Eastern Conference; a feat that will be far from easy to accomplish.

Celtics and Bucks Lead the Way in the East

Last season’s NBA Championship runners-ups the Boston Celtics are currently leading the Eastern Conference and they certainly look like the team to beat in this section of the league. The franchise is currently 21-6 on the year and has been incredible in their last 10 games, having gone 8-2 in that span.

However, they were recently beaten by the Golden State Warriors (the team to have beaten them in the NBA Finals last season), which has perhaps helped to give the Cavaliers a chance of catching them if the Ohio-based organization can put together their own impressive win records.

Of course, the Milwaukee Bucks are between the Celtics and Cavs, and they also continue to push for the top spot. They are just 1.5 games behind the Celtics, whereas the Cavs are 4.0 games back, but the 19-7 Bucks also experienced a loss in their last game when they were beaten in shock fashion against the Houston Rockets.

Will the Cavs be Able to Catch Them?

Given the form that the Cavs have been able to show over the last few months, it would not be a surprise if the organization was able to catch the likes of the Celtics and the Bucks up in the race for the top spot of the Eastern Conference. Nonetheless, there is no denying that they will need to be a little more consistent at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse and ensure they are able to capitalize on any mistakes that might be made by the other two franchises whenever they happen.

However, while the pursuit for the top spot in the Eastern Conference could be a bit of a challenge due to how well the other two teams have started, there is plenty of optimism that the Ohio franchise will be able to qualify for the postseason, with many sports betting enthusiasts also appearing to like the organization’s chances.

According to the latest information available and the odds, it would not be a surprise if we were to see a host of punters look to utilize the Ohio betting sites pre-launch offers that are possible to snap up already as we await the market’s imminent opening within the state as it is expected to go live very soon. These bookmakers, where some are legal across a plethora of states in the US already, are already suggesting that the Cavs have what it takes to reach the postseason, given the odds that have been provided.

With all of this information in mind, though, players who may be considering the Cavs as a possible wagering option once the activity does go live in the state may want to consider how well certain players on the team are performing and whether they will be able to continue to perform to the same levels on the court and help them qualify.

Players Continue to Step Up for Cavs

One reason why there is a lot of encouragement and optimism surrounding the Cavs and their chances of reaching the postseason this season is due to the fact that each of the players on the team’s roster are stepping up to the plate when they are called upon.

Bickerstaff has had a number of injury issues to his squad throughout this season already, with key personnel having missed time throughout various parts of the campaign. There have been some moments where it has been extremely noticeable on the court, however for the most part, it has not been as obvious as fans may have felt it would be. Caris LeVert is perhaps one of the main examples in how a player has been able to step up, with the individual having gone from the bench to a starter in a short game window and looking rather accomplished.

Players are starting to make their way back to health, though, which will likely help the team keep pace at the top of the Eastern Conference and potentially challenge for the top spot. However, it is perhaps important to note that one player is said to be happy on the court again…

Donovan Mitchell is Having Fun Again

There is no denying that Donovan Mitchell is a big-time player for the Cavs and the fact that he is having fun again on the court is a huge positive for Bickerstaff’s team. With him and Darius Garland enjoying themselves and playing well, the excitement around the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse Stadium can certainly be felt and it is clearly infectious on the team and its fans.

With a happy camp, it would not be a shock if we were to see the Ohio team competing in the playoffs after, perhaps, finishing top of the Eastern Conference after all.
