What Should Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Next Career Goal Be?

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Even though he is only 27 years old, Giannis Antetokounmpo has accomplished just about everything you could ask for in an NBA career. He has already won an NBA championship and a Finals MVP trophy. He has won two MVP awards, along with a Defensive Player of the Year Award and the Most Improved Player Award.

Since he has already accomplished so much, it seems like there is little left that Giannis Antetokounmpo needs to prove or achieve during his career. However, if a player is not setting goals for themselves, they will inevitably flatline. Giannis Antetokounmpo does not seem like the type of player who would want to remain where he is; he wants to continue to improve his legacy each day.

With that in mind, what are the next steps Giannis should take in terms of setting new career goals? In this article, we offer some ideas.

More Championships

Giannis Antetokounmpo has already won his first NBA championship; why not win more? The NBA championship is the mark of having the best basketball team in the world. When Giannis Antetokounmpo won his first championship, it confirmed that he was one of the top players in the league; he led the Bucks to the NBA title without any superstar teammates. Giannis and the Bucks earned that championship; no one can take that away from him.

If Khris Middleton did not get hurt in the playoffs last year, it would be argued that the Bucks would have repeated as champions. Nevertheless, the Bucks still have a chance to win championships for several years into the future. Giannis Antetokounmpo could add two or three more championship trophies to his already large collection or trophies. If he does, it will add more to his legacy as one of the greatest international players of all time, and a top 75 player in NBA history.

Chasing Kareem or LeBron

The current owner of the all-time career points record is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, with 38,387 career points. LeBron James is right behind him with 37,062 points. It is very likely that LeBron will pass Kareem at some point, perhaps even this year.

Giannis has currently scored 14,321 career points. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Giannis maintain his current skill for the next 8-10 seasons. If he continues his current scoring pace he is on, he should be able to earn at least 30,000 career points.
It would be difficult for Giannis Antetokounmpo to pass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in all-time points scored. It is going to be even harder to pass wherever LeBron ends up. But, it gives Giannis something to strive toward. Nothing would motivate Giannis more than a goal that seems unattainable.

In an effort to work towards this goal, Giannis would continue to solidify his legacy as an all-time great. He might even be able to enter the conversation that players like Kareem and LeBron are a part of. Giannis Antetokoumpo has the rest of the decade to show us that he is one of the greatest NBA players of all time; we will see what he does with his time.
