The Golden State Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 104-94 in Game 5. Despite Stephen Curry’s dreadful 0-9 shooting performance, the Warriors were able to fight through and win the game. Surprisingly it was Andrew Wiggins who led the warriors to Victory. Wiggins shot 12-23 from the floor producing 26 points and securing 13 rebounds. It was the defensive adjustment that the Celtics made that created this opportunity for Wiggins.
The Warriors are paying Andrew Wiggins 31.6 million dollars this season, and he displayed why he is worth every penny. Coming from the Minnesota Timberwolves and joining a championship organization, Wiggins is becoming one of the best two-way players in NBA history.
The other splash brother Klay Thompson poured in 21 points shooting 5/11 from three. Draymond Green assisted with a near triple-double performance. To say the least, the Warriors are a good team. Currently, they are up 3-2 looking to close out the series on June 16. I didn’t expect the Warriors to be in this position after the game three victory the Celtics had, as they looked like the more dominant team.
The Celtics’ defensive strategies seemed flawless, and the Warriors seemed confused. Playing the drop in the ball, scream again Stephen Curry allowing Stephen Curry to shoot his signature 30-foot logo jump shot while taking away other opportunities for the Golden State Warriors players.
Steph shot the lights out in Game 3, going 14-26 from the field and 7/14 from three, nearly breaking his playoff career-high in 3s made, Scoring 43 points. Fast forward to Game 5, and Steph makes history for the first time in his 133 playoff games, not making a single 3-pointer, shooting 0-9. Credit to the surrounding teammates who were able to produce enough to win despite Steph’s poor shooting night.
The Celtics are being bombarded with overwhelming offense and are being sped up and creating unnecessary turnovers and mistakes. The Celtics are 1-7 when they turn the basketball over 16 times or more and 13-2 when they limit the turnover to under 16. In Game 5, the Celtics turned the ball over 18 times. Despite outrebounding the warriors 47 to Golden State’s 39. The Warriors seem to be the tougher team. This veteran-filled team is destroying the NBA finals and is on the verge of winning their 4 NBA Championship in recent years.
Champs Behind the Scenes
With all the doubt surrounding this team, credit goes to the management office. After many injuries and obstacles, the Warriors fought their way back to the NBA finals and are making the doubters regret their words. We are excited for Game 6, as the Warriors look to close out this series 4-2.
I hope that the Celtics figure out a game plan and adjust to the Warrior’s offense, and this goes into a 7-game series. I’m not a fan of either team, but I am a fan of high-level basketball. These two teams have battled hard, and I would love to see these NBA finals series end in a Game 7 nail bitter.
