While there is no true right answer to this question, it is worth exploring. Let’s go over the careers of these generational superstars and decide ultimately whose legacy is greater as of right now.

Let’s begin with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Giannis, or the “Greek Freak” is a two-time NBA MVP, a Defensive Player of the Year Award winner, an NBA Most Improved Player Award winner, and an NBA champion and Finals MVP. His resume certainly speaks for itself. At the age of 27, Antetokounmpo already has the achievements worthy of a Hall-of-Fame induction.

Now, let’s look at Kevin Durant’s resume. He is a four-time scoring champion, the 2014 NBA MVP, and a two time NBA champion and Finals MVP. Despite playing five less seasons than Durant,

Antetokounmpo’s resume is already comparable to Durant’s, if not already better. The only achievements Giannis trails Durant in are the scoring titles and the number of rings.

Let’s take a look at those rings. For Kevin Durant, he won both of his championships while playing alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson on the Golden State Warriors. That team was regarded as one of the greatest teams ever assembled. They were absolutely unstoppable.

Antetokounmpo had Jrue Holiday and Khris Middleton for his championship run. Both are great players, but neither of those players come close to the talent of Steph Curry (or even Klay Thompson). All the Warriors really needed to do to win the championships was stay healthy. Giannis had to battle through the Eastern Conference and even through an injury to earn his first championship. For that reason, his one championship is more impressive than Durant’s two. Giannis wins the accolades comparison.

Skill Level

Make the better offer

Next, let’s compare the talent level of each player. Beginning with Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks superstar is one of the most dominant forces on both ends of the floor. He is the superior defender. He is a good playmaker; he could play point guard if need be. He is also great at scoring inside. Additionally, Giannis has great footwork. He has one of the most unguardable euro-step moves, allowing him to get easy points in transition.

One of the weak points of Giannis is his lack of shooting ability. He has consistently struggled from the three-point line, as well as the free throw line. While he has improved at both areas throughout his career, he is still a below-average shooter from both spots. However, he makes up for these weaknesses with an excellent motor. Giannis is able to consistently play his hardest every minute of every night.
Kevin Durant is a fantastic scorer.

He is arguably the greatest scorer in NBA history; he makes it look so effortless. Durant can create and make shots from anywhere on the floor, including the three point line. He is efficient from everywhere on the floor. The biggest proof of this is his recognition as a member of the 50-40-90 club, a mark of incredible efficiency.

Durant has no weak points offensively. He is one of the most dangerous threats for opposing defenses in NBA history. With his length and shooting ability, he is basically unguardable. Additionally, Durant has developed his ability to distribute the ball. So when he gets hot, he can find open teammates out of the double-teams.

Durant is not as good of a defender as Giannis, but he is still formidable. Comparing the two players, Durant takes the edge in terms of skill set. Giannis has more pure talent than he gets credit for, but he is still no match for Kevin Durant. KD is one of the most talented athletes to ever play the game.

Who Wins?

Ultimately, both players are great and it is a close call, even though Giannis has played less seasons than Durant. That being said, Durant takes the slight edge, for now. He has consistently been the best or second best player in the league for over a decade.

We have only started to see what Giannis is capable of. When his career is over, it is possible that he will have had a more impressive career than Durant. What is for certain is that both players will continue to impress and amaze with their NBA talent.
