Is the NBA Finals Matchup Set?

For every NBA season, we the fans, like to gauge who are the favorites to win the NBA finals.  We see teams that we love and try to make the case for them to win an NBA title. However, maybe this season is as simple as they come.

There are two teams that stand above the rest of the pack. Those two teams are the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets. This offseason’s goal was about adding any available player possible.

That goal was achieved big time. Now that the season is approaching sooner rather than later; it is time to discuss favorites. The problem is that we might be simply wasting our own breath.

NBA Finals – What Makes Them the Favorites?

The simple answer is star power. Both teams have assembled an All-Star cast that can match up with another. The Nets have Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving as their big three; while the Lakers have LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook as their tremendous trio.

No other teams in the league have that much firepower in their starting lineup, let alone on the bench. The Nets grabbed Patty Mills, Paul Millsap, and LaMarcus Aldridge. The Lakers brought back Rajon Rondo and Dwight Howard, plus new additions, such as Malik Monk and Kendrick Nunn

They are both the top two teams to win the title according to the betting odds. The Nets are +230 to win it all, while the Lakers are at +400. Your next best odds go to the defending champions, Milwaukee Bucks, at only +850.

We all know why they are the favorites and it is not going to change. The only way for us to not see the Nets-Lakers Finals is if injuries occur to either one of them. Expectations as of right now is to see these two titans battling it out for the most prestigious trophy in basketball.

Is This Good For The League?

The 2020-21 season was one with parity. We saw a new face be crowned champion. Also, we saw a team built through mostly smart trades, good signings, and luck in the draft. It was an organic Finals.

This came after several years of the Golden State Warriors-Cleveland Cavaliers Finals saga, which the world seemed sick of towards the end. We did get a slight intermission with the Toronto Raptors, but the Lakers rolled through every one the following postseason.

This past season felt different but in a good way. However, casual fans love the juggernauts. That is what we are going to have this upcoming season.

It might not be well-liked by everyone, but the money will be rolling in. There is no right or wrong way of building a team. The Nets and Lakers were able to do things differently than most.

It is their right to use their abilities to seek the best talent possible for their franchise. Some may say it’s not good for the league,  while others love it. Hopefully, this season can be as good as last season. There is a chance for that to happen, despite us potentially knowing the NBA Finals matchup this soon.
