It’s Finally Joel Embiid’s MVP Season

Joel Embiid

Philadelphia 76ers Center Joel Embiid has had an incredible career, especially the last two seasons. Joel Embiid has ended as the runner-up for the MVP award in back-to-back seasons, both times to Denver Nuggets Center Nikola Jokic.

However, with the incredible start to this season, Joel Embiid is making another case for the MVP, this time, undoubtably the best big man in the league. The Sixers Center will surely face some extremely tough competition with the likes of Jayson Tatum, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Luka Doncic all being likely MVP candidates for the rest of the season,, but if Embiid continues what he is doing, he will walk away with the MVP award.

NBA Scoring Title His To Lose

Move the biggest patterns in NBA MVP winners, is that they are commonly towards the top of the points per game list every single season. Currently, depending on which statistical data is researched, Joel Embiid is number one in points per game, only not in some due to only playing 18 games so far this season. However, Joel Embiid is on Pace to be the NBA scoring title leader, as he is averaging 33.4 points per game.

Joel Embiid has already put up two 50+ point scoring nights in this early of a season. Joel Embiid has an incredible usage percentage, tied for second with a 37.7%. The Sixers big man is the focal point of Philadelphia’s offense and will be for the entire season. As long as Embiid can remain healthy enough to play most of the season, he is on pace to be the most impressive player on the offensive side of the ball, a rarity in today’s NBA.

Contending Team

While the Eastern Conference is a stacked conference, the Philadelphia 76ers are one of the contending teams that many see as a top-five seed for the rest of the season. The Sixers will not be seen as the Eastern Conference favorites with the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Brooklyn Nets, and Milwaukee Bucks all being competing teams with the Sixers, but they are in that mix of top-tier teams.

The Sixers are currently the fifth team in the Eastern Conference in the standings, and that is with Tyrese Maxey, James Harden, and Joel Embiid, only playing a handful of games together. The Sixers have come out of the gate slightly lackluster, and are still one of the better teams, so if they can get all of the players on the same page, they will be easily one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA.

Two Way Player

The Philadelphia 76ers are currently the one of the best teams defensive rating. A large reason for that is Embiid’s work in the paint. One of the biggest arguments for Embiid to win the MVP the last two seasons, has been the argument that he is the best player when combining both offense and defense.

Embiid is an elite scorer, but is also an elite rim protector as well. Now with Joel Embiid stepping his game up to another level on the offensive end, and still being as solid as he’s always been defensively, he is a candidate for MVP, and defensive player of the year, which will help his MVP case even more.
