Kevin Durant is one of the most prolific scorers of all time, a forward standing at 6 foot 10 with the handle of a point guard. Durant announced this summer that he demands to be traded to a different team following the chaos with the all-star guard, Kyrie Irving.
Kyrie Irving has decided that he no longer wants to play for the Brooklyn Nets either and is looking to get traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. Kevin Durant’s career in Brooklyn was short, but the question is will he be wearing a Brooklyn jersey at the start of next season.
Durant did not play his first season after signing with Brooklyn due to tearing his Achilles in the NBA Finals with the Warriors the season before. Durant began playing at the start of the 2020 season, as the Nets traded for James Harden midway through the season to form a big three of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden.
Sadly this team was not able to make the finals once in their time together as Harden was traded last season to the Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andree Drummond, and two first-round picks. This was just one of the continued troubles for Brooklyn as Kyrie decided not to get vaccinated and was only a part-time player for the Nets during last season. Another problem was that Ben Simmons claimed he was injured and did not play a single game for Brooklyn allowing them to get swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round.
So far the Nets have not made any trade progress on moving Durant as they believed there would be a higher trade market for the 12-time NBA all-star. Durant originally listed the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat as his preferred landing destinations.
The Nets have asked the Suns for young star Devin Booker in any trade for Durant, but the Suns declined to give Booker. The only other trade the Nets have called was for Karl Anthony Towns, Anthony Edwards, and 4 first-round picks, in which the TimberWolves declined immediately.
I would not be surprised if the Nets do not find a trade by the time the season starts and Kevin Durant stays with the Brooklyn Nets. Durant is at a point in his career where he can’t sit out games especially after sitting out an entire season in 2019 with an Achilles tear.
Durant has had the skill set and talent to be an all-time great, however, he has never proven to lead a team to a championship as his two rings came from the Golden state Warriors carried by Stephen Curry. If Durant cares about his legacy he does not have games to waste as he will continue to get older.
If the Nets can find a trade it will most likely be with the following teams, Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat, or even the Golden state Warriors. In my opinion, the Golden state Warriors have the most to offer. The Warriors can potentially offer a blockbuster deal of Andrew Wiggins, Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, and a first-round pick. In my opinion, this would be the best package in return for Kevin Durant.
